DETAILS

Learn basic sewing techniques for improvisational patchwork: a messy and sometimes unpredictable method of connecting scraps together to form a larger piece of fabric. Practice cutting and attaching organic and geometric shapes. Sew by hand or try out the sewing machine to create an improv quilt block or wall hanging. No experience with the sewing machine is necessary, just curiosity and a desire to learn! This event is for folks 21+. Light snacks and drinks provided, as well as materials and instruction! Artist Bio: Melissa Rogers (she/they) is an arts educator and crafter who lives and works in Pittsburgh. They earned their PhD in Women’s Studies in 2017 for their dissertation, “Soft Circuitry: Methods for Queer and Trans Feminist Maker Cultures.” Their fiber arts practice explores embodiment, gender, and repair.
